About the Job

The researcher will (1) Develop and apply new transdisciplinary methods for sustainability analysis with a focus on resource recovery. (2) Develop system dynamics models for the transition to sanitation systems with increased resource efficiency and equitable access for all. (3) Enhance knowledge about trade-offs between different sustainability aspects by publishing scientific and popular science articles, and (4) Develop and write research proposals for continued work on these topics.

Your Background

We are looking for a researcher to strengthen our research on sustainability assessments of technologies for resource recovery from urban organic waste, namely wastewater fractions and organic solid waste. We are particularly interested in candidates who work on the connection between sustainability, wastewater infrastructure, system modeling, and policy. The candidate must demonstrate proficiency in systems thinking and system dynamics modeling, the ability to collaborate with a broad network of stakeholders, and have experience in assessing and synthesizing technical information into strong policy tools to support decision-making processes.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • PhD in engineering or technology clearly related to waste/wastewater management and resource recovery, or equivalent.
  • Fluent in English

Desirable

  • Completed Post Doc
  • System modeling skills (systems thinking, system dynamics modeling, agent-based modeling, etc.)
  • Experience in modeling technology transitions and/or innovation options
  • Experience in developing assessment methods and incorporating collected data into models
  • Ability to formulate policy-related resources
  • Documented track record of publishing, grant writing, and academic work both individually and as part of a team.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities such as the ability to work independently, flexibility, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, curiosity and willingness to learn, as well as good analytical and problem-solving skills and personal suitability.

About Us

At the Department of Energy and Technology, research and education focus on how agriculture can contribute to a sustainable society. We have extensive expertise in technologies and systems for sustainable food and bioenergy production, including optimal nutrient cycles and logistics systems. In the methodological area, we have great expertise in Systems Analysis including Environmental Systems Analysis and LCA, as well as in Biometry (statistics and mathematics with applications in biological systems) and Automation.
